*REVIEWAL
*László Gulyás
László Gulyás | Node Director at EIT Digital
Laszlo began his career by researching artificial intelligence (AI) in the early 90’s. When the businesses began using internet, László with a couple of his friends started his own company (dotcom boom). According to Deloitte Fast 50, his company was one of the fastest growing businesses both in Hungary and in the region. This company is still up and running. In 2014 László joined EIT Digital and since then he has been a facilitator of innovation, with special focus on digital finance. Laszlo is leading the #EITDigital2022 for Hungary and the Eastern European region, #EITDigital2022 is aimed at entrepreneurial minds planning to launch or boost a digital tech venture and product (Innovation Factory), or to deliver entrepreneurial digital tech education programmes (Entrepreneurial Academy).
EIT Digital embodies the future of innovation by mobilizing a pan-European multi-stakeholder open-innovation ecosystem of top European corporations, SMEs, startups, universities and research institutes, where students, researchers, engineers, business developers and investors address the technology, talent, skills, business and capital needs of digital entrepreneurship.
Balázs Faluvégi | President at Mafisz
Balázs said that the Hungarian Fintech Association (Mafisz) was created to echo, to represend and to advocate the fintech sector’s voice. He strongly believes that digital finance lead to the beginning of a new era, and that Hungary needs to catch up in competitiveness. One way to help Hungary increase competitiveness is to let the banks and insurance companies work together with businesses like EIT Digital or Mafisz. There are some one hundred Fintech startups in Hungary, and very many have or are joining Mafisz. Balázs emphasized that EIT Digital and we have to take responsibility in education as well, and support the new upcoming generation in getting all the information they need to later on, become the ones making the decisions.
*Gergely Szertics
Gergely Szertics | E- Group, PeasyPay
Our next guest, Gergely, whose colourful career path started similarly to László’s when they met at the AI Association called MI Coalition. László and Gergely have known each other for quite long, their connection was present in the business world too, where László introduced Gergely the opportunity for their companies to collaborate with one another. Gergely’s former startup, ReData-me is a platform with the primary purpose of sharing information and data in a GDPR compatible manner.
More precisely, its mission is to provide the platform to businesses to share their database of their users with the consent of their users safely and effectively. The collaboration between the startups was to perfect the platform and the use of data and introduce digitalisation into the process. This infusion turned out to be so incredibly successful that it became an international sensation and was shaped to being one of the largest spider- web of database platforms with Swedish, Italian and Finnish partners using it. During another collaboration between the startups, László and Gergely created PeasyPay, which is quite self-explanatory way of finance. It allows the user to pay like a Jedi, that is, by placing her/his hand in front of the scanner and it scans your face and palm. Based on this information, the system identifies the user and the payment goes through immediately. For a more scientific perspective, it is a biometric system that allows the scanner to identify the user, solely based on their faces and palms, but unfortunately, during this pandemic, placing your hand is not the best decision. This invention is certainly ground-breaking, the field is so untested, they are still learning and improving themselves as the startups grows.
By the end of the session, the audience could get pretty informed about how digital finance startups can take use of EIT Digital’s knowledge base and support, demonstrated by the success of PeasyPay.
*Péter Weiler
Peter Weiler– Artist
Following the Fintech experts, a pretty unexpected newcomer to fintech was welcomed, Peter Weiler, one of Hungary’s most respected and recognised artists and entrepreneur. Peter’s specialty is to capture every day moments, activities, where the focus is on the person interacting with his environment in a casual, simple way. Peter puts quite a noticeable emphasis on innovative communication, during which one communicates with the help of art, not only by looking at it, but also applying music and space, spatial effects. Peter often organises performances and street art exhibitions, where the primary focus is today’s problems of today’s society. Currently he is undertaking his masters at New York School of Arts and finishing his studies soon.
The reason why we call him a great newcomer to Fintech is because of the breaking news of the first Hungarian NFT auction of his digital picture that was a raging success, and was sold for bitcoin. If bitcoin is the digital version of golden bars, then NFT is the digital version of an art object, he said. An NFT art object can be categorised in two different groups: one of the groups are art objects that were created physically first, for instance a painting, or a sculpture and then this art is photographed, digitalized and whereas the original piece gets destroyed.
In the other case the artist creates the piece using digital crypto apps. Basically the art piece is created digitally. Then both these types are sold and since the original pieces are always destroyed, the question of ambiguity and mass production of the copies is solved. This brand new form of art is quite fresh, however it seems it will develop to be a long lasting trend of the digital age. The art is replicable, but the unfalsifiable key belongs to its owner only and that value is now monetizing. What is also remarkable that the secondary market of such art is remarkably liquid? It gives the opportunity for artists to reach international markets easier and expand their customer base. In the USA, crypto currency is already revolutionised the financial industry and 40% of art is sold in bitcoin.

*LAS VEGAN'S
Szilvia Magyarvári | Founder & Dietician of Las Vegans
Another excitement was caused by the Founders of Las Vegan’s, a well-known Budapest vegan brand. Their campaign has just been launched, yet in hidden phase. The vegan restaurant chain was founded back in 2016 and since then the team has made it its main goal to serve vegan dishes that are not only meat- free, but contain all the necessary nutrients and vitamins we need daily. Having a dietician in the team certainly ensures the professional development in their recipes, and to create dishes with both criteria fulfilled, giving the restaurant chain the market advantage they need to outperform their competitors. A healthy, balanced diet is vital for maintaining everyone’s health. The most important thing is the person’s determination to have all the nutrient, vitamins and resources that are required in a well- balanced, potentially vegan diet. Veganism is spreading fast across Europe, the trend is fairly new, but twice as ambitious. More and more surveys and data show that veganism have several advantages including a healthy diet, less water and soil pollution and the decrease of human foot print by at least 50%.
Recognising this fastly increasing trend, Las Vegan’s has decided to expand the restaurant chain and enter to international markets with their franchise. Today, they have more potential franchisees already indicating their interests from all over the world. Las Vegan’s is also planning to commercialise their own vegan products and have more and more produced. During this pandemic their most important strategy is to strategize our expansion, work out all the details and find funding for our plans, so when all this is over, we can make our dreams reality.
