The exemplary crowdfunding-based regional and social development support system in Northern Italy is notable.
The modern form of community funding, the platform-based system of investments and support, similar to capital market achievements, began earliest in Anglo-Saxon areas, with the British Crowdcube and the US-based Kickstarter platforms among the first; since 2009, this form of financing has created 2000 platforms worldwide.

The initiative is part of the “Self-confident city” program, co-financed by the European Social Fund through the POC Metro operational program.
The initiative was presented to the city on Wednesday, December 19th, in the Infoday webinar and the recording of the event is visible on the social channels of Produzioni dal Basso and on the Facebook page @LaCittaSIcuradiSe.
The call includes the selection of a maximum of 15 projects, which may have a maximum duration of 8 months and a maximum cost of €10,000.
The selected third sector organizations will receive specific tutoring on crowdfunding from Produzioni dal Basso to better tackle the fundraising phase and learn the best strategies.
” After having successfully followed the first edition of the Civic Crowdfunding of the Municipality of Venice, it is a real pleasure for us at Produzioni dal Basso to be able to support the Municipality also in this second edition – said Angelo Rindone CEO of FolkFunding and Founder of Produzioni Dal Basso – In fact in addition to making the infrastructure of our platform available, we have defined, with the Municipality, training and support activities for third sector bodies in the area and a series of meetings to give feedback to citizens on the financed projects and the impact generated by this initiative.”

Update
According to information from born2invest – October 17:
Source: https://born2invest.com/articles/city-campus-venice-campaign-ecomill/
The City Campus, a university campus in Venice, has launched a campaign on the Ecomill platform. Ecomill is the first Italian community funding platform that facilitates the alignment of capital supply and demand.
The City Campus Project is currently fundraising with an equity crowdfunding campaign on Ecomill. The minimum fundraising goal is €250,000 and it is possible to invest from as little as €100. In addition, for those who invest up to €99,900, there is a remuneration of 4% per year and an “exit,” i.e., Right of Withdrawal from the investment from the 7th year onward.
According to research by Scenari Immobiliari, there is a shortage of at least 130,000 beds for off-campus students. The number of these students has been growing steadily since 2015: the percentage weight of the off-campus component in the entire pool of enrolled students has always grown over the past decade, standing at 39.9 percent.
Against this, the research also shows how investors’ interest in the university residence market is growing strongly, with investments of €200 million by 2022 in Italy and €12.4 billion in Europe.
With the project, the cooperative aims to create a widespread university campus in Vicenza, Italy, aimed at promoting hospitality, food, culture, and energy transition through an innovative pathway that will redevelop two existing properties. The promoted urban regeneration involves the redevelopment of two properties and the development of activities that are constituted in a fair living proposal that, contrary to student dormitories, aims at integration and generativity between an increasingly welcoming and attractive city and the University.
The common areas are designed to be open and public parks, lungs available to the city: the campus as a courtyard with residences and a food store, overlooking a patio garden.
City Campus responds to a growing demand for residence and services in “Vicenza university town” starting with the proposal of residences for students, professors and employed staff, but also for those seeking temporary housing for various reasons: tourists or people and families who need to be close to strategic services such as schools and other training sites, the hospital and sports centers.
With out-of-province university students at 57 percent (a.y. 2021/2022), the coverage of residential needs was 9.92 percent. With the City Campus offering, the coverage would rise to 23.52%.
By launching a civic crowdfunding initiative, Venice aims to aid the launching projects within this initiative by stating that if the projects do manage to raise 50% of their target amount, the government of Venice will fund the remaining amount thus supporting the projects in becoming reality and in the long run, improving the economy of Venice.
